We’ve had in Joe Biden these last four years, a Silent generation president — the really nice, polite, empathetic, procedural type of generation (as will likely be the kids born 2005 – ~ 2027, but I digress).
Biden, born in 1942, in the last year of the Silent gen (1925-1942), is the only member of his generation to become POTUS. The only! There are very few VPs of that generation, either.
Boomers have dominated the presidential scene since the early ’90s (Clinton 1, Clinton 2, Bush Jr and Trump) with only one Xer (Obama 1 and Obama 2). Yes, Obama is an Xer, as the 1961-1981 birth years track better to the GenX experience. (It’s more true than you could possibly believe.) And then Biden, by a hair, was our one Silent gen president in this recent saeculum of time.
But, basically, after the last four years, everyone (Ds & Rs) got used to the Relatively Nice Democrats, with Biden — the helpful, procedural, empathetic generation — at the helm.
But now, we have Kamala, an Xer, and Xers got stuff to GET DONE. Kamala, Walz, Cori Bush (on FIRE now!) and on and on. The Xers are coming out of their restraints.
The gloves are OFF. (You’ve got to watch this video of Cori Bush saying she is now free to do what she wants.)
Xers are a bottom-line, results-MATTER, jobs-need-to-get done generation with survival of the tribe (and, particularly, the protection of children) being of the utmost matter.
It has only just begun. This Xer power. This Xer ATTITUDE, unleashed in its current place as the nation’s midlife leaders, aged 43 to 63 in 2024. That’s the age group that steps into leadership at higher and higher levels. It’s the age group that manages most societal institutions and has the most direct power on how things get done.
Legit.
And, I promise you: we are only at the tip of the tip of the tip of the power that is being unleashed. Just the tip because the gloves are just starting to come off.
