Generations are, I find, quite fascinating to note.
I never watched Northern Exposure when it was on. (I was on a many-years no-TV jaunt through the entire ’90s.) But when I started watching the show on Amazon, it was instantly clear to me that all the young actors were Gen Xers, with most born in the first year or two of Gen X’s beginning.
The second I saw Maurice, I instantly knew he was not a Boomer but of the generation prior: the Silent generation (b 1924-1942).
You can SPOT the Gen Xers in this photo. It’s so obvious. And I bet you are better at spotting people of different generations than you know are. Here are the Xers —

Darren Burrows – Ed
Cynthia Geary – Shelly
Both Hollings and Maurice are Silent generation; the opposite/shadow generation of Xers. There are few Boomers in the show:
Marilyn Whirlwind by a hair,
Adam of the wild and
Dead Rick.
