Last year, I wrote a piece about generational changes and correlating changes in the Burning Man culture. I spent hours writing the piece.
Folks found it, shared it, commented on it.
Some liked what I said and agreed wholeheartedly; others hated it. Whatever.
But what threw me–nay, offended me greatly–was the number of people who thought it was AI-generated text. (Some still liked the piece even if they agreed it was likely written by AI.)
I couldn’t understand why this piece which I, and only I, could have written, was considered AI-generated. Then as Time marched on and I learned more of the mistaken “em-dash equals AI” thinking, I understood.
Long live the em-dash! And a host of other more-used and lesser-used bits-o’-punctuation.
