I’m sure plans are already underway.
Somewhere, someone–or many someone’s–are developing businesses, both online and brick-n-mortar, for selling some of the culinary delights World Cup attendees are experiencing while in America.
There will be, in the UK, Europe, Australia and, heck, maybe even Japan and various African nations, stores selling —
* ranch dressing and ranch dressing powder mixes
* brisket spice rubs
* Tex-Mex and street taco flavorings flavor packets
* Popeye’s-like batters for deep-fried chicken and catfish
* grits and more
I wouldn’t be surprised if meat smoker sales in these countries skyrocketed in the next year or so.
And the restaurants?
Yes, other parts of the world will begin offering American cuisine restaurants. Southern cuisine. Food from Alabama. Tex-Mex. Cheesy grits. Bigger burgers.
Some will begin offering free refills on coffee and soda, and it will be ‘a thing.’
They won’t be able to match the scale, delivery, efficiency or cost of the Syscos of the US. Prices will be higher. Portions will be smaller. But there will be a rise in interest, desire, curiosity … and respect.
America’s days as a hegemony selectively applying rules to other countries, refusing to following international laws when it comes to its own transgressions, and its bullying and crippling of other nations’ economies and political structures needs to stop. Period. Done. Over.
But America–and Americans–in a global resurgence and expression of hospitality, warmth and welcoming … that spirit can spread. It needs to. We need it. The world needs it.
