While I delight in this time of year, when the earth warms more and more by the day, and the much-missed green comes out in full force, I lament to inform you (those who care, at least) that I have spotted the first instar of the dreaded, invasive and really difficult to squash (because they’re so darn fast) Japanese Lantern Flies.
To contain their spread in my little zone of the world, I am trying something different this year: diluted ammonia in a spray bottle. This way I can kill them from a distance (they don’t see me coming at ’em) and the ammonia, when it washes to the ground, will provide some nitrogen to the soil.
So far, I’m zero for one trying to smack one to death and one for one for spraying one to death.
Progress reports to continue, if I’m in the mood.
