Pawpaws a plenty

I love the night sounds of Maryland’s High Summer! The cicadas, crickets and katydids.

Last night, in order to soak up as much of these sounds while I could, I spent a few hours transplanting many a pawpaw seedling I planted this spring into stand-alone containers, getting them ready now to be transplanted to their forever homes in the early fall.

I’m going to have quite a few pawpaw plants available come late September.

These aren’t always the best tree for suburban yards as they send out suckers and can create patches/groves/thickets of pawpaw trees in short order.

But they are great to plant along creeks and streams for soil retention along riparian zones and, in time, for native fruit production.

Stay tuned. And thanks to the many people who have gifted me pawpaw seeds over the years.
