Maryland is, imo, a great place to live.
The state is sometimes referred to as ‘America in Miniature.’
In such a relatively small state we have so much going on! So much diversity of land, people and plants. So many places to adventure and explore within a few hours’ drive: mountains, meadows, beaches and the bay, to name but a few.
We have the Piedmont Plateau, the Atlantic Coastal Plain and the Appalachian Mountains. We have the Chesapeake Bay, countless rivers and streams that feed into it, and a bit of the Atlantic Ocean and beachgoer-friendly shores.
We have historic towns and homes, cities and city life, suburbs and their amenities galore, and rural farms and pastoral lands. We’ve got highways to get places quickly and endless windy backroads to get places more slowly and scenic-ly.
We hardly get any weather disasters: an occasional blizzard once a decade, a blip of an earthquake tremor on occasion, maybe one small tornado here and there. We get the rains from hurricanes but rarely the devastation of those states hit full on.
And with Washington, DC, a hop, skip and a jump away, with Baltimore, Annapolis and Frederick all nearby, we get a variety of city life.
We have off-the-hook gorgeous springs, pretty and colorful falls most of the time, winters that are rarely intolerable, and summers that range from pleasant … to, well, suffocating with their hot, hazy and humid days. And mosquitoes. But beyond those bloodsuckers, living here is pretty darn good.
